Reports of hostage situation all a hoax

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton Police dispatched to a west side apartment arrived to find that a call was all a hoax.

Dispatchers reported a person being held at gunpoint at 34 Clarke St. just after 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Multiple police arrived, only to find there was no danger, and a man was only trying to obtain ransom money for himself.

Binghamton Police said the man, a drug addict called his grandfather claiming he was held at gunpoint and needed money.

His grandfather then called the Binghamton Police Department.

New York State Police also responded.

No charges have been filed.
