Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) People living in the Chenango Forks school district head to the polls to vote on a referendum to buy four new buses.

Polls are open on February 26 from noon to 8 p.m. in the Chenango Forks High School auditorium.

The referendum is to purchase three 65-passenger and one 48-passenger school buses. The new buses will replace four aging diesel buses currently in the district's fleet.

After state transporation aid is applied to the cost, the net cost for the purchase is $75,000. It will be paid over five years.

The buses proposed are liquid propane (LP), which are more fuel efficient than diesel buses and provide a safe alternative fuel choice amidst rising fuel costs. The district currently has two LP buses.

Voters must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the district for at least 30 days. Identification will be required at the polls.

For more information or an absentee ballot, please call 648-7564 and follow the prompts for the district office.
