Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One of Binghamton's most frequently traveled roadways and one that's seen recent deterioration will undergo a makeover beginning this summer.

The office of Mayor Rich David announced a search for bids will begin Friday to reconstruct Riverside Drive between Front Street and Beethoven Street on the city's west side.

The project will include reconstruction of water, sewer sanitary lines and curbs.

David's office said the plan calls for milling and saving road material, which the city can sell to fund future projects.

“Residents frequently ask me why Riverside Drive is in such bad shape and when it will be fixed,” said David-R. “This central roadway had been ignored for far too long and the time for action is now.”

Road work is expected to run from June to November.

The second half of the project will continue in 2015, with work from Beethoven to the Johnson City line. In the meantime, according to David's office, a top coat will be applied to that stretch of road to prevent further deterioration.
