Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Broome County has been considering selling the BC Transit system and the Willow Point Nursing Home to private companies for the past few months. The question was always whether the county had enough money to run the services in the future.

As of Wednesday night, they do. According to Broome County Legislative Chairman Jerry Marinich, the proposed 2014 budget includes funding for BC Transit and Willow Point Nursing home.

The Broome County Legislature's finance committee held its final budget report Wednesday.

The committee's chairman says they have reached their two goals with Broome County Executive Debbie Preston's 2014 proposed budget: To lower the proposed property tax increase -- which went from 2.97 percent to 1.77 percent -- and to redirect resources to legislative priorities.

But the future of Willow Point and BC Transit have been contentious issues.

"Let me speak to BC Transit and the nursing home as it pertains to the budget. They are fully funded for 2014, no changes, fully funded." said Marinich.

Marinich said the current budget is still a work in progress, but that it will be at least $800,000 less than the initial proposed budget.

The final budget adjustments will be heard by the entire legislature on Thursday.

Marinich said they will vote on the approval of the budget at the meeting.
