Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One local football hero is in New Orleans getting ready to play in the biggest game of his life. Arthur Jones of the Baltimore Ravens will be playing in Super Bowl XXXXVII.
Action News took a look back at Jones' earlier years. Teachers and coaches talk about the Jones boy they knew.
"One day an altercation happened in the hall way. These two boys in front of me were going at it going at it and the moderator that brought them in was very upset because it was all this tom foolery going on in the hallway..." "... One of the two boys looks at me and said but we're brothers.. and it was Art and John Jones," said principal of the Union-Endicott Middle School, Annmarie Foley.
From that point forward Art Jones left an impact as he walked the halls of U-E High School.
"Art Jones was a very quiet leader. He is very centered, thoughtful, well-mannered and respected by all of the student body," Foley said.
Teachers use Jones as an example to show students that anything is possible with hard work and determination.
Faculty and staff add that Jones had is fair share of fun too, whether it involved causing a little harmless mischief with his brothers or giving it all on the athletic field.
"It's not often that you get a kid of that size that can move as well as he does," said Jones' former wrestling coach, JJ Stanbro.
Coaches say Art's drive came right from home and he may be able to thank his brothers for his competitive edge.
"They were going at it all the time, no matter what it was they were competing with one another. I think that pushed both of them," Stanbro said.
Jones spent his high school years focused and driven.
"That's what I remember about Art Jones, the man." Foley said.
Super Bowl XXXXVII kicks off at 6:30 p.m. right here on WBNG-TV.
