Binghamton (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Rotary Club hosted the new Binghamton University Men's Basketball Coach Tom Dempsey. He discussed how he plans to turn the team around.
Dempsey took the job in August and has been spending that time getting his players enthusiastic and prepared for the new season. Their main focus is improving their speed and transitional play in order to get on the board more.
"I think we're at a point now where we can start getting ready for practice in a couple weeks because we're ready to fight, we're ready to play hard and I think that was what this process was about these last couple of months," said Dempsey.
The coach also discussed the benefits of having an involved campus.
"I think if you can establish the type of culture that the community can get behind, that the campus can get behind, that the alums can get behind, I think the wins will follow," he said.
Dempsey hopes the hard work and dedication the team has put in will help them turn the corner from the past few seasons. He says he can feel the excitement on campus and that it's the teams responsibility to deliver on that excitement.
Their first game is Nov. 9 against Loyola.
