Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) SUNY Broome is officially open for learning. Tuesday marked the first day of classes for the fall semester.

The college has enrolled 5,900 students for the fall semester. Of the amount enrolled, 4,340 are full time. Students coming out of high school are among 3,275 first-time students.

Students said adjusting to the college life might be easier then high school.

"In high school it's really regimented and here you have an open campus,” said Freshmen Mikayla Davis. “There's just no one telling you, you have to be anywhere."

Sixty percent of the nearly 6,000 enrolled students are from Broome County. 5,320 students are from New York while the other 360 are out of state and international students.
