Kirkwood, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Last October, 13-year-old Kashawn Stroman began having headaches, pains that were so severe, he and his family sought medical advice.

As it turns out, Stroman was suffering from a condition known as hydrocephalus, which causes water to collect on his brain.

Doctors say he's likely had a tumor on or in his brain his entire life.

The Susquehanna Valley eight-grader received a warm welcome during a benefit in his honor Saturday at the Elks Club in Kirkwood.

The room was packed with people, all there to help Kashawn and his family.

"Its over whelming," said Kashawn's mother, Brandy Jackson. "I've been crying a couple times already but you know it is over whelming."

"It feels really great because I didn't know all these people love me and cared about me and it's so nice," said Kashawn.

Every penny of the money raised Saturday will be given to the family to help offset mounting medical bills.
