Schneiderman: Coalition Suing EPA Over Natural Gas, Oil Emissions

December 11, 2012 Updated Dec 11, 2012 at 9:26 PM EST

(WBNG Binghamton) New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and six other states plan to file a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency, claiming it has done too little to curb emissions from the oil and natural gas industries contributing to rising global temperatures.

In his announcement Tuesday, Schneiderman said the EPA has failed to address methane emissions from these industries, even after it revised its regulations.

Schneiderman added that the EPA itself has found methane partly to blame for warming global temperatures.

Schneiderman said this lack of oversight leaves 95 percent of methane emissions uncontrolled and violates the Clean Air Act.
