(WBNG Binghamton) Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announces an investigation into possible price gouging following Hurricane Sandy.
Hundreds of calls have been reported from the New York and Long Island area, mostly in relation to high gas prices.
Consumers also complained about possible gouging for emergency supplies, and hotel rooms.
General Business Law prohibits increases in costs for essentials during natural disasters.
Schneiderman noted that the complaints may not meet the threshold for coverage under New York's gouging statue, but consumers should contact his officer to report anything that appears suspicious.
