(WBNG Binghamton) A man who left a lasting legacy in Pennsylvania was remembered Wednesday.

Family, friends and political leaders gathered in Lackawanna County to remember William Scranton, who passed away last month at the age of 96.

Scranton was a congressman, governor, presidential candidate and ambassador.

Current Republican Gov. Tom Corbett said Scranton was a world-class leader who will be remembered as a man of humility, honesty, dignity and integrity

"It's a day to celebrate a very long life, a life that gave a lot to the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States," said Corbett.

Scranton planned much of his own funeral service before his death.
