Town of Fenton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A portion of Chenango Street was closed after a Wednesday afternoon thunderstorm took down a large tree at the intersection of Franklin Avenue.

NYSEG, the Hillcrest Fire Department and Broome County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene on Chenango Street.

They closed the street between Beacon Street and Beckwith Avenue to clean up the area and repair the power lines and poles.

There were no live wires or injuries from the incident.

As a precaution, a nearby school closed early for the safety of the students.

Officials tried to clear the tree and debris as quickly as possible to open at least one lane of traffic.
