Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Village votes to double its sewer user fees--eventually weighing down the pockets of Village residents.

Johnson City trustees voted to increase the minimum sewage user rate from $20 to $40 dollars.

JC owes more than $400,000 dollars to the Binghamton Johnson City Joint Sewage Board, which runs the plant.

This increase may help them pay off their outstanding debts.

Back in 2009, the board voted to decrease the sewage user fee from $40 to $20 dollars and now its falling back on rate payers.

The increase will go into effect the next quarterly billing cycle.
