Binghamton, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) A local man was arrested after mistakenly trying to sell hashish to a pair of detectives on their lunch break.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office says Brian M. Fitzgerald, 30, of Robble Avenue in Endicott, approached two men in the parking lot of a Main Street restaurant.

The shoeless Fitzgerald didn't know the two men he was soliciting -- first for directions and then to buy hash -- were detectives, according to a news release.

He was arrested, charged with selling marijuana, which is a misdemeanor, and issued an appearance ticket for Binghamton City Court.
