Whitney Point, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A New Jersey man has been identified as the person who died Monday morning in a single-car crash on Interstate 81.

The crash happened just before 10 a.m. on I-81 north near Whitney Point.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office says Jules L. Abramovitz, 69, of Morristown, N.J., was driving his 2013 Kia Soul when he somehow veered off the left shoulder. The car went airborne and hit a concrete bridge upright before coming to a rest under the bridge.

An autopsy performed on Abramovitz this afternoon at Wilson Regional Medical Center showed the cause of death was head trauma, according to a news release.

Abramovitz was enroute from his home to Rochester for work, the release stated.

The northbound side of I-81 between exit 7 (Castle Creek) and exit 8 (Whitney Point) re-opened at 12:05 p.m. A section was closed for nearly two hours as crews cleaned up the scene.
