Chief Zikuski: Police officer shot and killed, suspect dead

Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Johnson City Police Chief Joseph Zikuski said a police officer who was shot Monday morning died.

Zikuski also confirmed the suspect is dead; following news the suspect was in critical condition and was taken into surgery.

Broome County dispatchers reported the shooting of a police officer in the area of 32 Harrison St. near Wilson Hospital just after 7:05 a.m.

An eyewitness who worked at Southern Tier Imaging at 32 Harrison St. told Action News an unidentified man shot a police officer multiple times.

The shooting took place in front of Southern Tier Imaging.

Multiple officers responded to the area.

At 7:35 a.m., a bomb squad was also dispatched to the scene, including a bomb sniffing dog.

A full evacuation was ordered of 30 and 22 Harrison St., which are medical buildings.

Witnesses were taken to the Johnson City police station.

Binghamton Police are assisting Johnson City Police.

Chief Zikuski said more information would be available at a media conference planned for Monday afternoon.
