Just before 9 o'clock, Binghamton Detectives were called to 13 Felters Road.

That's where they found 42-year-old Kimberly Carpenter in the parking lot outside of Building 15 in the Saratoga Heights apartment complex.

She was conscious, but suffered five gunshot wounds, mostly to her abdominal region. She had been shot in her vehicle, a rental car with Virginia plates.

Law Enforcement officials then issued a countwide "Attempt to Locate" for the suspect and his vehicle, using information that Carpenter provided.

Detectives learned the suspect was 45-year-old Ted Carpenter, Kimberly's husband.

Scanner reports indicated he fled in a white sedan.

Scanner reports also said that several sheriff deputy vehicles were called to the Love's Rest Stop in Kirkwood.

That's where Police Cheif Joe Zikuski says they located Ted Carpenter, and tried to stop his vehicle. It came to a sudden stop.

That's when troopers found Carpenter shot himself.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the weapon he used was stolen.

Meanwhile, Binghamton Fire Department transported his wife, Kimberly, to Wilson Trauma Center. She's listed in critical condition.

An investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a domestic incident. The couple lived at the Carriage House Apartments in Kirkwood.

Kimberly was visiting a friend at the Saratoga Heights apartments.

Binghamton detectives continue to investigate.
