Pilot survives small plane crash

Cortland, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A small plane crashed at the end of a runway at the Cortland County Airport Sunday, but emergency responders said the pilot was able to get out.

According to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened just before 3:30 p.m.

The pilot, a 55-year-old man, was the only one inside.

Deputies said he got out of the single-engine plane before emergency crews arrived.

He was taken to the Cortland Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The accident did not close the airport.

After officials investigated the scene, they moved the plane to a secure location.

Deputies report the Federal Aviation Administration will take over the investigation.
