Six arrested in meth lab bust (with photos)

Newark Valley, NY (WBNG Binghamton) New York State Police break up a methamphetamine lab in Newark Valley and arrest six people.

State Police and several other police agencies and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration executed a search warrant on Shirley Road Tuesday evening.

Inside the home they say they found seven ounces of liquid methamphetamine, five grams of processed meth, hypodermic needles, several items needed to make of meth and a .410 shotgun.

Scott Cole, 23, of Newark Valley, fled the scene, but State Police used dogs and helicopters to find him in a wooded area.

The others arrested were Jamie Swackhammer, 29, of Newark Valley; Bryan Burkard, 31 of Berkshire; Theresa Cochran, 48, of Caroline, Kara Smithgall, 23, of Endicott; and Melanie Short, 28, of Berkshire.

All six are charged with felony criminal possession of the controlled substance.

They were arraigned in Newark Valley Town Court and sent to the Tioga County Jail without bail.
