Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
St. James Catholic Church held an event called "Night in a Box" on Friday to help raise awareness for the homeless.

Teens from around the area joined together in the St. James parking lot to spend the night and spread the word.

Participants were allowed only a cardboard box and a blanket.

Spirits were high and the teenagers were excited and proud to be taking part in the sleepout.

Youth minister Lynette Errante said that the community has been very supportive; "Ive had so many calls throughout the week of people who have heard about it, have been very excited to donate, and are really excited for the youth to be so active."

In the weeks leading up to Friday night's event, the parish has been collecting clothing, personal items, and blankets. All donations will be sent to charities.
