Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Drivers will be alerted to curves in the road along a section of State Route 8 in Chenango County.

The New York State Department of Transportation installed flashing beacons in the towns of Norwich, New Berlin and Columbus.

The DOT conducted a traffic study which led to the action.

"These simple enhancements should greatly improve safety along this curvy stretch of Route 8 through Chenango County," NYSDOT Commissioner Joan McDonald said.

The beacons became operational Friday to alert drivers to slow down ahead of the curves.

To complement the beacons, new high intensity sign sheeting and delineators will be added to signs.
