Some Stores to Open Thanksgiving Night

Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Some stores will be starting Black Friday a little early this year.

Locals who want to get a jump on holiday shopping are in luck. Toys R Us, Walmart, Sears and now Target have all vowed to open their doors on Thanksgiving night.

Target is the most recent addition to the list, saying that the slated 9 p.m. opening time will be three hours earlier than last year's.

Die-hard shoppers are happy about this, noting that they will be able to get in line for sought-after items that much sooner.

"I think it's okay for stores to be open on Thanksgiving. I think it's totally acceptable now for people to get time to do that shopping for Christmas," said John York of Owego.

However, not everyone agrees. More than one 150,000 Target employees have signed a petition against the early open. They say Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family and friends.

Many shoppers were unaware of the petition, but even those who like to get their gifts taken care of early felt some sympathy for the employees.
