Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) You expect all the usual on your Thanksgiving table - the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes. This morning, some kids are making sure everyone can have those goodies on their plate.

Students at St. James School in Johnson City are collecting bags of Thanksgiving food to help families Broome County.

The teachers and kids donated 58 bags of food filled with stuffing, potatoes, and desserts to Broome County Catholic Charities.

The school says it's a way to give back when the community needs it the most.

Laura Levis, a secretary at St. James School said, " It lessened the burden on the Church, and the kids enjoyed doing it with their parents and collecting the goods, going through the checklist and shopping."

As a reward for the students, they could take a break from their uniforms and wear whatever they liked.

The school is also collecting money and clothes for the victims of Hurricane Sandy with the First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City.
