Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A local parish celebrated a milestone anniversary Sunday.

St. Patrick's Church in Binghamton held a celebratory mass and reception to mark their 175th anniversary.

The church was founded mainly by Irish immigrants, and has been a staple in the community since 1838.

Although the building has changed over that time, the message and strength of the parish has remained strong.

Sunday's mass brought the bishop, parishioners and even people of different religious affiliations together.

"People have really come together to celebrate this great event and the church was filled, not only with people who are parishioners now, parishioners in the past, members of the ecumenical and inter-faith community were here to celebrate with us, so it's been a great day," Bishop Robert Cunningham of of Diocese of Syracuse said.

Cunningham said he was very happy to be invited to participate in such a landmark celebration.
