Starving To Be Heard

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Patrick McElligott has spent the past few years researching hydraulic fracturing, and the effects it has on our land and water.

Monday, he stands outside the State Office Building declaring he is going on a hunger strike.

He is not striking for Hydro fracking to stop.

He simply wants to have a conversation with a State Representative.

McElligott says he will be cutting out all foods, but will drink water, and one cup of fruit juice every day.

McElligott says he will continue the hunger strike until his voice is heard.

"I decided if I couldn't get the dialogue with certain officials, and there's really a need to do, I would try to do this to build a little bit of tension to encourage them to talk," says McElligott.

McElligott says he has made several attempts to reach State Senators, but says he's not getting the response he hoped for.

Action News did reach out to Senator Libous' office for a comment, but they were unable to comment at this time.
