Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Thousands of people throughout the Town of Union and the Town of Maine began their Friday morning without power.

The power went out for 6,031 NYSEG customers just before 9:00 a.m.

Wegmans, the Oakdale Mall and WBNG were among those that lost power.

Several traffic lights were down, so police worked to direct traffic traveling through the intersection of Harry L. Drive and Reynolds Road.

NYSEG officials said the outage was the result of a static wire that came down inside the Oakdale substation, impacting all customers served by that substation.

To restore power, crews had to switch everyone to an alternate feed and then repair the static wire. Electricity was restored in about an hour.
