Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After months of frigid temperatures and a series of snow storms, Thursday was a day most people in the Twins Tiers have been looking forward to, the first day of spring.

The season officially began at 12:57 p.m. on Thursday.

In downtown Binghamton, people took to the streets to enjoy the sunshine and 40 degree weather.

"It's good, you know. It's been cold since the last few months and to the sun coming, it's nice," said James Green, of Binghamton.

One Binghamton High School student went outside with her jacket on.

"It's not that bad. I was actually going to have a ride to work but I'm walking," said BHS senior Rachael Whittman.

But one downfall to Thursday's weather was the wind. Flags waved constantly downtown and people had to guard against a pretty stiff breeze.

Even though spring started on Thursday, some cold weather is on our way with even some possible snow next week.
