Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Visitors of the Oakdale Mall Tuesday afternoon likely heard it before they saw it.

It was the first East Side Super Strings concert.

The ensemble is comprised of a handful of students from East Middle, Benjamin Franklin, MacArthur and Theodore Roosevelt schools.

The group played four songs and the concert lasted about 30 minutes.

East Side Super Strings has students with various skill levels.

"The middle schoolers are more advanced, they have been playing since third or fourth grade, and the elementary students that are up there are in fifth grade, they have also been playing since third or fourth grade," said Laura Hine, the orchestra director.

The music teachers hope to make this an annual event.

Wednesday night, the Binghamton West Symphonic Band along with the Jazz band will collaborate with Susquehanna Valley at the Oakdale Mall.
