Student Dies in Costa Rica

(WBNG Binghamton) A Binghamton University student dies in a car accident while participating in a summer research program in Costa Rica.

Three other students were injured.



Zoe Damon died when the van she was a passenger in went off the road.



The van was driven by Associate Professor of Environmental Studies Richard Andrus.



Damon is from Kingston, N.Y. and was majoring in biology.



Three other passengers were injured but their injuries were not life-threatening.



President C. Peter Magrath said the entire University community is saddened at this tragic news and offered thoughts and prayers for the families of all those involved.



Binghamton University announced Monday that the majority of the students in the program have returned home.



Two students lost their passports in the accident.



Andrus is remaining in Costa Rica with those students until their passports are replaced and attend to any other details before they can return.
