Oxford, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Organizers in Oxford are doing what they can to prevent suicides.

They put together a 5K race and a chili cook-off to raise money for Team Chenango to participate in an 18 mile overnight walk put on by the American Foundation for Suicide prevention.

It's happening in June and participants will walk from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Danielle Williamson lost her father to suicide 12 years ago.

And she's been working to prevent it ever since.

"Suicide affects so many people in this area. You'll see a big group of yellow shirt people who lost their son. I lost my dad 12 years ago so it's just bringing together people for the same cause," said Williamson.

Williamson said they need to raise about $7,000 for her team to participate in the walk.

They don't know where in America the walk is going to be yet...

But they'll be there no matter what.

They're hoping to raise about $2,000 dollars at the 5K run/walk.
