Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A new educational program started Monday for students in our area.

The STEAM Summer Academy works with three districts: Chenango Valley, Chenango Forks, and Whitney Point.

The program revolves around STEAM's focus areas, which are Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.

The 27 students involved will learn about building, communicating, and team work.

They will also concentrate on the importance of networking and using technology to it's fullest.

"They know how to use a computer, they know how to use their iPhones, they know how to use this stuff...they don't know how to use them to improve," said teacher at Broome-Tioga BOCES, Matt Sheehan. "They're not taking them and finding solutions. If any of them put in traffic jam and challenges, they probably would have the solution within minutes. But they didn't."

The camp is free to any student who wants to participate.

Officials hope the program will continue in the future.
