Police Return Fire, Kill Suspect

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A man is dead and a Binghamton police officer is shot early Christmas morning.

Police said officers responded to a call at approximately 2:30 a.m. concerning two suspicious men near Conklin Avenue and Livingston Street in Binghamton.

Police found the men on the Memorial Street Bridge.

When the officers approached the men, one of them opened fire. One of the officers was shot. Police did not say where.

Officers returned fire, killing one of the men.

Police have not released the identities of the men or the officers involved. They also didn't say whether the other man was shot, in custody or if he escaped.

The officer who was shot was treated and released from Lourdes Hospital.

The incident is still under investigation.
