Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One suspect is in custody following a downtown stabbing that sent one man to the hospital, announced Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski.

Police responded just before 4:20 p.m. Friday to the 200 block of Court Street outside the parking lot of the Broome County Library for reports of a man bleeding on the ground.

Sunday, officials identified the victim as Kendu Johnson, 30, of Binghamton,

Zikuski said Tuesday during a press conference that Johnson was stabbed in the chest at the corner of Court and Jay Street and is still in critical condition at UHS Wilson Hospital.

Police arrested Wilfredo Hernandez, 51, and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a weapon.

Zikuski added that the dispute over a "very small" amount of money several months ago prompted the attack.

Hernandez was preparing to flee to New York City, according to the police chief.

Two additional suspects have been identified, but are being treated as witnesses.

At the time of Tuesday's press conference, police were unable to provide a mugshot of Hernandez due to identification issues.
