Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) During the past decade, "going green" has become an increasingly attractive craze accompanied by people's interest in organic and sustainable food sources.
As a result, community gardens have sprung up across the nation with several right here in Binghamton, thanks to Amelia LoDolce's efforts.
LoDolce was recognized Tuesday night with the Sierra Club's Lynda Spikard Award for her accomplishments in sustainability, from managing gardens to working with Broome County Gang Prevention.
"They've taken vacant lots, that have been plagued by garbage and illegal activities and have just revitalized them into beautiful spaces where people can grow food for themselves," LaDolce said.
The award was part of the Sierra Club's annual potluck dinner.
