Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One school in the City of Binghamton has an obesity and over weight problem that is attacking 50 percent of its students.

Cornell Cooperative Extensions Citizen U teen program spent the day working with students at Theodore Roosevelt's Summer Program.

The teen leaders combined physical activities like hula hooping, hop scotch, jump roping and jumping jacks.

The group also provided fruit tasting and a station for smoothies with added celery and spinach. Kids didn't even notice the vegetables in the delicious drink.

"When you hear an adult telling you, you don't really want to listen, but when you hear someone near your age bracket, it's easier to understand," said teen leader Jarrel Walker.

Citizen U leaders hope that the students will take what they've learned and apply it at home.
