Taking steps to end cancer
Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Hundreds of people took steps in the journey to end cancer Saturday. Relay for Life of Western Broome took over Sammon Field in Vestal. Participants will be spending the night, walking laps to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. This year's Relay for Life theme is "Changing the Channel on Cancer." Cancer survivor Trisha O'Neill organizes the survivors tent. She says it's very important to have something to celebrate because it spreads hope. "Cancer, it's an awful thing," O'Neill said. "So when you fight and work together and have something to celebrate at the end of the day, it's really nice." So far, the 20 teams participating in Relay for Life of Western Broome have raised $70,000. Through the night, the teams will enjoy music, games and activities.
