Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) As Gov. Andrew Cuomo continues to prepare for his reelection campaign, his first challenge comes from a former law professor in his own party.

New York Democratic primary candidate Zephyr Teachout spoke Wednesday at Cyber Cafe West in Binghamton. Teachout is challenging the incumbent Cuomo at the Democratic Primary Sept. 9.

“I hope to be your next governor because I see so much potential in this state. I see the potential of an economy and a democracy that is clean and renewable and works for all of us” said Teachout.

Teachout's campaign is focusing on stopping corruption in Albany and ensuring hydrofracking doesn't happen in New York state.

"We cannot afford to bring hydrofracking to New York and we need Andrew Cuomo to speak about it. But we are blowing the whistle" she said.

Binghamton was one of many stops on Wednesday for Teachout on her whistle blower tour that started in Manhattan Wednesday morning.
