New Berlin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) 16-year-old Kiran Borst loves Christmas.

So much, she wants to spread that love in her town of New Berlin.

"I went to my mayor and said, let's have a Christmas Tree lighting," said Borst.

And she did.

In the one light town, Borst wants to add about 8,000 more on a 30 foot pine.

New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter has been working with Borst to bring her dream to life. He said the project has been great for the whole community.

"Really, what she's trying to capture is the Christmas spirit and the community has really rallied behind it," Potter said.

Borst raised more than $1000 to pay for the tree lighting, and got neighbor Chobani to buy all the lights.

"This tree is going to be a symbol of what our community is about," said Potter, "And what is going on, the excitement in our community."

The tree will stand in a vacant lot in the town square.

Borst can't imagine how she'll feel when the lights turn on.

"I'll probably cry," she said, "And just smile and be so happy."

Borst hopes that pride will be catching.

"We're such a small town," she said, "I think it's going to bring them all together and give them spirit of what Christmas really is."

The tree lighting will take place on December 1st at 6:00pm.

Choirs from a number of local churches will sing.
