Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Christmas is a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. But sharing that special day are thousands of babies born each year on Dec. 25, including a few born in our area Wednesday.
This Christmas, the Hickey family, of Binghamton, welcomed more than just presents. They welcomed a new family member.
Grace Mary Noel Hickey was born on Dec. 25 at 12:23 p.m., just two minutes shy of being born on 12/25 at 12:25. She was born four days after her original due date.
The Hickey family added Noel to Grace's name because she was born on Christmas.
Grace, or Gracie, was born 9 pounds, 10 ounces and was 21 inches long.
"I mean it couldn't be a cooler day. She gets to share her birthday with Jesus," said mother, Lauren Hickey.
Grace is the youngest of four Hickey children.
Two babies were born Wednesday at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
The Hickey's original Christmas day plans went awry, so they brought the holiday with them.
"We were supposed to have everyone at our house, but we're doing it here. We've got a couple Christmas lights up," said father, Ed Hickey.
Hickey said having Grace's birthday on Christmas will not hinder her celebration each year.
Hickey was a candidate in the Republican Binghamton Mayoral race earlier this year.
