(WBNG Binghamton) Truck drivers in New York will no longer be facing a 45 percent toll hike.
The Thruway Authority announced their 2013 budget with measures to cut costs and prevent the increase. It was a complete reversal of their earlier position.
Governor Andrew Cuomo praised the budget saying the toll increase should be a last resort.
"I thought it would be counter-productive from an economic development point of view, especially in Upstate New York. We've worked hard to say to business that it's a new day in New York and that we got it and that we're working on reducing costs," Cuomo said.
Steps being taken to reduce costs include shrinking the work force by six percent and cutting operational costs.
The Thruway Authority has already begun to put some of these steps into place.
