Tioga County man dead in morning jog hit-and-run

Town of Tioga, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An early morning jog for a Town of Tioga couple turned into a deadly hit-and-run.

New York State Police said Daniel and Karen Manwaring were jogging along West Whitcomb Hill Road in the Town of Tioga at 6:30 Saturday morning when they were hit by a blue Nissan XTerra.

The SUV then left the scene.

Daniel Manwaring, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife Karen, 43, was transported to Wilson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

State Police arrested 33-year-old Jason Townsend, of Nichols, on Saturday as the suspect. He is charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting.

Townsend's car was found a few hours after the incident on Lyle Road, the street that runs parallel to where the hit and run happened.
