Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) In Tioga County, the brave men and women that serve in the Sheriff's Office were honored on Friday in an annual awards ceremony.

Deputy Tim Schmidt received the most ribbons and medals, totaling 5.

One of the medals he received was for his heroic work just a few months ago.

In December, Schmidt was part of a team that successfully talked a man down. The man had weapons in his possession and was threatening to hurt himself.

For that, he was given the Medal of Commendation.

"I don't want to take all of the credit here. I want to reflect it back on my shift. My supervisor, Frank Lavore, and we all push each other and get after each other to do a great job," said Schmidt.

Schmidt was also given a certificate of appreciation for having the best overall statistics.

He's been with the Sheriff's Office for five years.
