Tompkins County and one of its towns declared local emergencies Wednesday afternoon after last week's storms caused damage estimated to be in the six figures.
According to Tompkins County Director of Emergency Response Lee Shurtleff, damages exceed $400,000, and the compromised waterways and infrastructure could put private properties in peril in the case of another storm.
Shurtleff said repairs would be beyond the capacity of what a local government could manage.
Tompkins County is also asking New York state for help as it takes emergency action.
The town of Enfield also declared a local emergency Wednesday afternoon.
