Train hits woman in Endwell

Town of Union, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) A woman was struck and killed by a train in Endwell just after 6 p.m. Saturday.

It happened on the tracks near East Main Street and Hooper Road.

According to New York State Police, the victim, later identified as Holly Nalepa, 38, was laying on the tracks alone.

A Canadian Pacific Train was traveling eastbound when they observed Nalepa laying on the tracks.

Several warning signals were given but Nalepa failed to get off the tracks. The engineer applied the brakes to the train but was unable to stop before striking her.

Troopers said the conductor called 911.

Action News was on the scene. State police, Endwell Fire Department and a coroner responded.

According to police, Nalepa’s current address is listed as the YWCA on Hawley Street in Binghamton.

The investigation is ongoing.
