Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The smells from the 40th annual Grecian Festival at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation wafted through the breeze in Vestal.
The summer festival has something to make everyone's mouth water.
The Greek Orthodox Church event not only brings out the Greek community, but people from all over the Southern Tier for their summer taste of Greece.
It raises money for the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, it's the only fundraiser the church has all year.
"Without this fundraising, there's no way for us to keep this church going and we need the church," festival chairman Steve Anastos said.
Anastos says festivals like this one help the local Greek community stay in touch with their Grecian roots.
"It's our culture. This festival means a lot because we do a lot of festivals like that in Greece. It's our culture, it's what keeps us going from generation after generation," Anastos said.
The festival runs from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday there will be a special lamb dinner.
The church is also offering free parking and a shuttle bus from NYSEG.
The church is located at 4121 O'Hara Dr. Vestal, NY.
