Town of Tusten, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Another town board in our area has voted to ban hydrofracking.

In Sullivan County, the Tusten town board voted to prohibit high-impact industry, and that includes high-volume horizontal drilling in the Marcellus Shale.

The town board vote comes as the DEC traveled New York State seeking public input on the practice.

Drilling has not yet been permitted in New York, though the DEC is moving closer to issuing permits for natural gas development.

Tusten's move reiterates the question of how much power municipalities have to regulate the practice of horizontal drilling.

Dryden and Middlefield recently banned hydrofracking, though both are involved in lawsuits.
