Two Air-Lifted After Falling Down Elevator Shaft

Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Police investigate a serious accident at a construction site in the City of Ithaca. Two workers are air-lifted to trauma centers after falling four stories down an elevator shaft.

On Saturday around 9:30 a.m., the Ithaca Police Department, Ithaca
Fire Department, and Bangs Ambulance responded to the construction site at 359 Elmira Road, the Fairfield Inn.

Two bricklayers were working above the elevator shaft at the
construction site when the scaffolding fell through the floor they
were working on, causing them to fall into the elevator shaft. They fell about four stories to the bottom.

Police are not releasing the names of the two injured.

They were treated on scene and airlifted to regional trauma centers. One subject was listed in critical condition and the other was listed in stable condition.

The Ithaca Police Department, Ithaca Fire Department, and Bangs Ambulance all responded. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to help in the investigation.
