Two Die In Owego DWI Crash

Town of Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - Alcohol was a factor in an early morning crash that killed two people Sunday.

New York State Police in Sidney say the crash happened around 2:45 a.m.

23-year-old David Amerman and 18-year-old Viviana Pena of Owego both died from injuries sustained in the crash.

20-year-old Kari Bensley of Owego was the driver of the car.

Bensley was headed North on Montrose Turnpike in the Town of Owego when she failed to follow through on a left curve.

Her car left the road and struck a tree, head-on.

Neither Amerman, nor Pena were wearing seatbelts.

Bensley is charged with 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter in the 2nd degree.

She is also charge with driving while intoxicated, as well as other traffic offenses.

She was arraigned in the Town of Owego Court and taken to Tioga County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
