(WBNG Binghamton) First Niagara Bank will close two branches in the Southern Tier, an office in Owego and Conklin, according to CNY Business Journal.

The Owego branch, on 18 Lake St., and the Conklin branch, at 1115 Conklin Road, will be closed on March 7. The closing will effect eight jobs, Oliver Hays, First Niagara spokesman, told CNY.

According to CNYBJ, the move is part of the bank's consolidation effort announced Jan. 8. First Niagara said it would eliminate up to 170 administrative positions at branches because of increased customer use of its online, mobile and telephone-banking options, wrote CNY.

Eight other First Niagara branches will close, five in Pennsylvania and three in western New York.
