Two arrested on burglary, weapons charges

Town of Coventry, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Two men from Chenango County were charged with several felonies after authorities say one sold a stolen gun to an undercover cop.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested Eric Nelson, 29, of the town of Afton, and Rory J. Tanner, 29, of the town of Coventry on Aug. 24.

According to the sheriff's office, the two men stole an AR-15 and a 12-gauge shotgun from a home on Tracy Road in Bainbridge.

The men then sold the AR-15, which police later recovered. Nelson allegedly sold the 12-gauge shotgun to an undercover police officer in Coventry.

The sheriff's office said deputies found hypodermic needles, spoons, heroin residue and glassine envelopes at the scene.

Charges:
- Criminal possession of a weapon, fourth degree (three counts)
- Burglary, third degree
- Criminal possession of stolen property, fourth degree (two counts)
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree
- Criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Nelson was also arrested on an arrest warrant for two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree in the town of Bainbridge.

He was arraigned in the Town of Bainbridge Court on the warrant and sent to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $3,000 cash bail.

Charges:
- Burglary, third degree
- Criminal possession of stolen property, fourth degree (two counts)
- Criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Tanner was arraigned in the Town of Coventry Court and taken to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail.

The two will be arraigned in the Town of Coventry Court on additional charges at a later date.

While investigating, other larcenies in the area were solved and the sheriff's office said additional charges are pending.
